UN-HABITAT REGIONAL OFFICE FOR AFRICA HOSTS FAREWELL PARTY FOR THE OUTGOING PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF KENYA TO UN-HABITAT



The State Departments for Foreign Affairs and Housing & Urban Development, UN-Habitat, Regional Office for Africa and the Permanent Mission of Kenya to UN-Habitat came together to bid adieu to Ambassador Jean Kimani in an unforgettable farewell gathering. The farewell hosted by the Regional Office for Africa was characterized by heartfelt speeches and shared memories. Ambassador Jean Kimani served as the Permanent Representative of Kenya to UN-Habitat from 2020-2024. Ambassador Jean Kimani is a long serving career diplomat who before served in Gaborone and Botswana after which she retired and was appointed Kenya’s Permanent Representative to UN-Habitat, a position which terminated early this month.


In attendance was the outgoing UN-Habitat Executive Director Ms. Maimunah Mohd Sherriff, Chris Mensah the secretary to the Governing Bodies, Mr. Oumar Sylla the Director Regional Office for Africa (ROAF), officers from UN-Habitat, State Department for Housing and Urban Development and Officers from the State Department for Foreign Affairs. Also present to extend a warm hand of farewell to the outgoing PR was her successor Mr. Daniel Kottut, Minister, taking over as charge d'affaires a.i. Mr. Kottut has been the Deputy Permanent Representative (DPR). He is a lawyer by training with an LLM degree and Post Graduate in International Law and Development. He has served earlier in Kenyan Embassy Sweden, Kenya Permanent Missions in New York and Geneva.
