The Permanent Representative of Kenya to UN-Habitat Amb. Jean Kimani held a briefing session with the Chairperson of the Council of Governors (COG) committee on local Government H.E Governor Susan Kihika, Governors Gladys Wanga, James Orengo, Julius Malombe and Moses Badilisha on the forthcoming UN-Habitat Assembly. The quadrennial event that brings together 193 member states of the United Nations, local governments, local authorities, academia, and training institutions will take place from 5th -9th June2023 at the UN-Habitat Headquarters in Nairobi.
The Permanent Representative briefed the committee on the preparations towards the meeting at regional and local levels, including the objectives ,structure and expected outcomes of the Assembly. She highlighted the role of the Permanent Mission in the whole process and emphasized on the importance of working together with the COG to ensure a successful second session. The Permanent Representative also underscored the critical role the Counties play in adding value to discussions and meetings on Sustainable Urbanization and Human Settlements both locally and globally.
